Portland.or.Bust!

Roadtrip to Portland equation:
Me+MySis+Bug+BudgetRentalTruck+Mini[on a trailer behind the truck] = Recipe for disaster?

Well, it actually [thankfully] was not a complete disaster.

We had a couple minor hiccups here and there,
but we made it,  & that's what counts, right?
It was pretty awful though.

It all started with the traffic in LA.
Then the construction-traffic in the grapvine.
& due to a burned-up transmission,
this is exactly how fast we had to go through ALL the mountain passes:
Yep, you are seeing that correctly, 25MPH!
I guess the truck was preparing me for the slow Oregon drivers...
Really though, F U Budget Rental Trucks
I will never use them EVER again!
What a hunk of crap that truck was!

& what an ugly drive...
But we got to see plenty of CA agriculture!
& we tried to keep our spirits high...
Even at DAWN
After an hour of sleep!!
[see our smiles?]

Bug mostly held it together too!
Until the Benedryl we gave him made him hallucinate :(
Poor Beetle-Bug! He was so scared & wacked out!
He even let Jess hold him while I drove:
Doesn't he look pathetic?

Jesse kept track of us the whole way on Google Latitude
& helped entertain ourself with the town names along the way,
including Weed, Whiskeytown & Hooker [WTF?], haha:

Finally, approximately 20 hours after we left Menifee, CA,
we made it to the Oregon border!

What a beautiful drive from there on out!
Too bad it was SO stressful since we were driving on the shoulder
at 25MPH uphill & downhill!
Yay 5 North in Oregon!

25 hours [about 8 hours too long] after leaving
sunny Southern California,
we finally arrived in Happy Valley, OR.
A cute little suburb about 20 minutes outside of Portland.
My new roomies R&S were more than welcoming with
a delicious homemade meal and plenty of wine waiting for us!
A life-saving meal, let me tell you!

Let me just say that I am happy it is over.
& now I am an Oregonian [weird!!].

"Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.  And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go."
